Thoughts With Miners' Families

It was with great sadness, that we have learned of the tragic events that took place at Gleision Colliery in recent days. We can only imagine the sorrow felt by the families and friends of the miners, upon hearing this terrible news. It has been widely acknowledged that the miners were at the heart of our community and their loss will be felt, not only in Neath, but across Wales.

I'd like to take this opportunity to praise the courageous efforts of the emergency services, including police, fire and the mines rescue services, that have been working in extremely difficult conditions. In the coming weeks an investigation will seek to answer the questions that need answering, yet the time calls for those affected by this tragedy to be left to mourn their loss.

Our prayers go out to their loved ones at this time.
